What do you recommend to replace my DMXIS USB interface. I use DMXIS software as well. I see some out there but most are 5 pin, does it hurt to use a 5 to 3 pin converter cable?

The DMXIS software only works with the DMXIS hardware interface.
You could use Show Buddy Active instead of DMXIS for your lighting control. Show Buddy Active supports a wider range of hardware interfaces.
