Mapping the Performance Buttons to Midi COntroller?

HI-

I'm trying to use the midi buttons on an AKAI MidiMix and map them to the performance panel. Desire is to have the physical midi buttons match up with the "grid" panel at the bottom of the Performance screen.

Is this possible? I can't use midi learn to do the mapping.

MIDI control for the performance buttons is set up in the Preferences window. See p41 of the user manual for an explanation of the various settings. Show below are the settings for an AKAI APC Mini.
