Pan / Tilt Oscillator

Post by ChrisDuncan »

I was reading the posts and someone had asked for the shapes from the DMXIS macros. I thought rather than hard code a finite number of shapes, this might be more fun to play with. When you find shapes you like, you can just save them off as a palette.

This is really just a simple tweak of Dave's Attribute Oscillator macro, but it gets pan and tilt into one effect with the parameters duplicated for each so that you can set them individually.

You could, of course, just layer two attribute oscillator effects, but I find it easier to work with everything right in front of me. There's nothing new in here, it's just a convenience macro to make it easy to experiment. I hope you find it useful.

As with any D-Pro macro, after you unzip the attached file, just copy the Pan Tilt Oscillator.py file to your macro directory and it will then show up on your effects menu.

Pan Tilt Oscillator.zip
Unzip the file and copy "Pan Tilt Oscillator.py" to your macro folder.

Thanks, will try that :)
Wow! That actually helps to compose quite a lot!

I may be doing something wrong. It's a while since I studied Lithesome Jew figures*... (well I took figure drawing and we had nude models at Brandeis during my MFA years, but that doesn't count, does it?) so my memory could be cloudy, but don't you need a cosine function as well as a sine, to make circles? I'm trying and I can't do one... I just keep getting a diagonal metronome thing happening, unless I change the parity between speeds, and then you don't get a circle anymore.

* yes I know that's not what they are called, I'm punning.

You know, it occurs to me that I never actually tried to make a circle. Now where did I put that old trig textbook...

Of course, I've heard that the secret to flying is to throw yourself at the ground and miss. If you're in a square room, perhaps there's a sequential analogy to that approach, though I can't guarantee it applies to light waves.
