Migrating from one laptop to another....

Post by steveforward »

Hi everyone,

I've been trying to get some help on this.
After using Showbuddy v1.3 on my main gig laptop since 2012, I have another laptop which runs win10.
I've been doing a lot of live streaming, and decided to migrate my Media Files across along with the database.
As I bought two DMXIS/Showbuddy boxes back in 2012, I want to run one at home for live streaming, and one to take out for gigs...

when I've finished restoring the database, there are several "red" songs coming up as missing.
If I go to browse/locate them, Show Buddy crashes when it tries to import them.
When I go to Click on "Show Library" and select a show, same thing happens. Crashes.
Send Report in Bugtrap is greyed out also :/
What an absolute nightmare!

the database imported OK, I even copied across my Media Files folder from the win7 laptop.

when trying to locate the missing "Red" tracks, It starts out by saying this...
"Audio File Not Found In Show Buddy Media Folder"
File, " name of file.mp3 " not found - please locate it in the next window..

so i locate the file, only to be met with..

"Audio File Not Found"
Could not find, " name of file.mp3 " in your chosen location.

which it utter nonsense, as I've just located it.

My guess is the database from my gig laptop (Show Buddy v.1.3.0) is incompatible with v.1.5.3 Show Buddy on the new laptop (win10)

Here's the details. I'd love to get some help on this,

Gig Laptop (i5/8gb Ram win7 64) :
DMXIS v.1.30 (build 514)
Show Buddy v.1.3.0

New Live Stream Laptop (i5/4gb Ram win10 64)
Show Buddy v.1.5.3
DMXIS v.1.6.3

to Dave Brown specifically. Is there any way I can get an earlier release of Show buddy as close to v.1.3.0 as possible. V.1.3.0 does not work in win10. locating full versions of Show Buddy is impossible, I've tried looking everywhere.

Thanks to anyone who replies or responds.

Send a copy of your Show Buddy 1.3.0 database to support@db-audioware.com, and I'll upgrade it to be compatible with current releases.

I recommend Show Buddy 1.6.2 and DMXIS 1.7.2 for new Win 10 systems. Grab the Show Buddy installer here.

Thanks Dave, I've had to install v.1.3.0 of Show Buddy (Build 514) and DMXIS V.1.30 also. (may have the dots in the wrong places there, but they're both v.1.30)

Ive used the same version of both, since 2013! nothing has ever gone wrong, not one single crash, nothing, nada.

I am not a fan of win10, but like win7, and even liked winxp :)

I've sent a rather rambling "panicky" private message to you, along with my .db file from july 5th 2021 (today!) from my win7 machine. Sorry for the panicked message, I'm so used to it all just working. all my programming is on Show buddy.
