Re: MIDI control of DMXIS hardware?

I get it that at some point you have to convert the ArtNET DMX commands to the DMX link layer and physical 250kHz asynchronous 8N2 serial link through an RS485 transceiver, but it is not true that this has to be done inside the iPad. The least amount of work would be a EZ Kling DMX controller throu...

Re: MIDI control of DMXIS hardware?

Ok.. your still not understanding what I've already told you. OnSong is NOT a lighting console, it will not generate DMX in any shape or form Artnet is also NOT DMX and will not magically generate DMX. It is a transport protocol that allows you to pass DMX commands over Ethernet. You cannot get from...

Re: MIDI control of DMXIS hardware?

Thank you for the quick reply cgrafx. :) You would need a MIDI interface connected to your computer , This is what I want to avoid - having both a PC and an iPad on stage. The only way to avoid having both a PC (or other lighting controller) and your iPad on stage would be to have lighting control ...

Re: MIDI control of DMXIS hardware?

You are miss-understanding what the DMXIS hardware interface is. It is nothing more than a USB to DMX interface. All of the DMX commands are generated by the DMXIS software. Well, this is what led me astray (from page 14 in the DMXIS user manual): An on-board microprocessor performs all the DMX fra...

Re: MIDI control of DMXIS hardware?

It's been a while since I fiddled with this, but if I recall correctly the light show still runs if you close the DMXIS software and keep the DMXIS hardware powered. I might remember wrong but it seems to me the the box itself kept reacting to footswitches changing both Bank and Preset. Even the os...

Re: MIDI control of DMXIS hardware?

Is it possible to control the DMXIS hardware interface with MIDI over USB without running the DMXIS software? This would enable MIDI control from an iPad. The rest of our band is using OnSong and it's only available for iOS. An ideal setup would be to have an iPad with OnSong sending MIDI commands ...

Yes SBA will read DMXIS show files directly. Actually I believe it will do that automatically when you install SBA, but not 100% sure on that.

Re: Upgrading to Showbuddy active

Show Buddy Active is a more advanced version of DMXIS and would replace DMXIS in your configuration.

You would only use two (Show Buddy and Show Buddy Active)

I really wish the name hadn't been changed from DMXIS Platinum or had been changed to something else as its very confusing.

No disrespect to DMXIS implied, its a fantastic tool, but like all tools has its sweet spot and its limitations. No point in trying to force a hammer to be a screwdriver or a screwdriver to be a hammer. Right tool for the job. Good luck with LightJams, hope that works out and leaves you with a few l...

Re: Oscillator problems.

In order to have that level of control you'll have to use something like Ableton and a click track. You can do direct lighting control assignments anywhere in the timeline. Keep in mind that DMX is a very slow protocol so try to keep things as simple as possible. As a strategy I'd try and use preset...

Re: Oscillator problems.

Thanks for posts guys. That's not what I need. The problem with DMXIS is i can only program 1 step/ preset at a time. The fade to next is a global setting for the whole preset. I can't use that when I've got other fixtures I need to program. I have 30 fixtures, including 2 sets of moving heads. The...

Still not the intended use of the oscillator, the light isn't just going to fade off, its going to fade back on.

Not really the intended use of the oscillator. The oscillator is intended for continuous repeating cyclical effects.

Instead setup two presets, one with the light on and one with the light off and a fade set to the time you need.

Re: DMXIS and MIDI?

The lack of a Blackout is a major bummer, I programmed in a bank with all off (for a blackout) after hitting the switch it takes 14 seconds before it starts to eventually fade to a black out (yes fade)... it has to finish the previous chase first 😕. The inability to alter the ‘bar’ in each bank is ...

Re: Simple Macro for increasing and decreasing channel values in all banks and presets

I'm assuming your using DMXIS? Its possible to do a macro to adjust levels, but its definitely not a simple task. Does it just modify Dimmer channels. If a light doesn't have a dimmer channel what method is used to calculate the RGBAW value changes (you can't just do a fixed number). Additionally yo...

Re: Simple Macro for increasing and decreasing channel values in all banks and presets

Your post talks about adjusting values of selected channels. You can do that with the faders.

you heading talks about adjusting values of presets. Those are two different functions.

So are you asking about modifying presets or simply adjusting fader values of selected channels?

Thats kind the entire point of the faders (to adjust the levels)

I don't have any idea how the learn midi assignment would happen without you arming that function so clearly something odd going on.

Maybe try using the learn function to assign a different midi combination that is not used anywhere. See if you can get it to learn a different channel and note

Re: "Fade to Next" in Logic going CRAZY

Maybe you've somehow trained the fade to next knob to follow some random midi data. Try the forget option on the knob and see what happens edit: Actually I can see from the picture that you have assigned the "fade to next" to Ch15 Note 2. So anytime that MIDI channel and note are played it...

I'm not sure, but I think the fade is defined in the preceding preset, and passed as an argument to the following preset. Nonetheless, I'll try what you suggested. Thanks! Yes, exactly. I'm suggesting you create a preset called FADE that has every channel masked so it is effectively a blank preset ...

Re: Helix snapshots to change lights

I think you could create a single program that is effectively blank, but has a fade associated with it and call it fade. You would do that with a channel mask set to disable all channels. You could then insert this anywhere you want a fade to occur. Moving from the Fade program to any other should f...

Hi Mitchell,

This is actually a great question. I've been laying out stuff with the front of the stage oriented to the top of the screen. I'm not entirely sure it matters as long as all your orientations are consistent.

Maybe somebody else can chime in here with a more definitive answer.

Re: 32 bit and 64 bit - Can I restore from one to the other?

The smart ass answer is yes, but you'll have to chop the 64-bit data in half.

The correct answer is just yes you can share files. The show and fixture files don't care if your running 32-bit or 64-bit.

Re: MIDI assigning of individual presets?

yes and no.

Individual presets within a bank respond to incremental MIDI notes.

Meaning for example if you start at C3 and chromatically go up the scale, preset 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 etc in order will fire.

But I don't believe you can assign random MIDI notes to random presets.

Scenes are stored as presets. And you can autoplay them (they are under the perform tab) They can have a tempo, but the tempo is controlled independently from the master clock, tap tempo and audio inputs. If the audio or tap tempo was connected to autoplay it would do pretty much exactly what your a...

Unless Dave chimes in stating otherwise, I don't believe there is a way to step through scenes using the built in audio source. You could probably do this externally with a sound to MIDI trigger programmed to step through scenes.

Re: Show Buddy Active with any USB->DMX?

Just to clarify.

DMXIS will only work with the DMXIS hardware box

SBA on the other hand is not hardware locked and will work with other DMX interfaces. Both USB to DMX and Artnet.
The Artnet implementation has the advantage of supporting 2 universes.
