Re: DMXis Visualizer

Gotta love 7 year old threads.

I don’t know much about ShowBuddy, though I did eventually move to D-Pro that has basic 2d visualization. Ended up getting into a few other DMX apps over the last few years and started using Capture. A little expensive, but works with every system I have.

Re: DMXis Macro - manage moving head targets for show

Just stopping by for a BIG "thank you". Did a full show programming with rad3d's solution - and it worked like a charm. Cool stuff. May be worth uploading to https://github.com/ and share the code there as an Open Source project. Hey - I'm just glad that someone was able to follow my set ...

Ah - you just reminded me that I was looking for this for D-Pro! Didn't bother looking at the board name.

Yup - the move to D-Pro has been good. A different take on how I needed to approach things - though still miss a few things about DMXIS (Sound Tracker).

Hey Chris -

I ended up getting this to work. But, I believe I needed to change something within the DMXIS config at the time. Don't remember what, though. Possible this issue has changed with more recent versions of DMXIS.

Re: Foot controller / Midi control pedal

Is there something I need to do on my computer to get midi transmitting correctly? I see it written in several posts that you have to delegate what channel your midi will transmit over and I've no idea how to do that. I have an FCB1010 with Uno4Kemper chip installed (I bought it on eBay, I don't us...

DMXIS is a different solution. This question has been asked more than a handful of times out here. You 'need' an additional interface. It doesn't have to be an expensive one.

Re: Trigger Ableton Sample and DMX (simultaneously)?

Yes, before you told me your idea of the clip triggering setup, I was thinking there might be some sort of solution with (Bomes Midi Translator). But im really trying to keep everything as a loadable template in Ableton (one software, no setup and no room for error). I feel surely there is a midi t...

Re: Trigger Ableton Sample and DMX (simultaneously)?

I'm used to triggering samples with my footpedal (set velocity), so I wasn't thinking about how this might affect what you're doing. I believe that once you map a specific note in Ableton as a remote control event, it is not available as a normal midi event. Remote control events are simple set velo...

wow. how silly. they are so close to making their midi/preset control so functional. all they need is a right-click "learn midi" or something. it seems like that would be useful to a lot of people... and yeah, you could organize your whole structure and automation for a track... and then ...

Re: Optimizing Sound Tracker

Would love to see an ability to apply a release timing (similar to sound tracker) that would slowly fade the light after the note off. Isnt that what the "fade to next" feature does ? Was referring to more of a 'momentary' feature with a fade out time. A special that could run on top of a...

Re: Midi control two devices

You can also try Midi over Wifi (rtpMidi), which should work on an older Mac. I've used rtpMidi with iOS devices on a Windows machine, but I lost connection enough to not want to use it in a live situation. Might work better in a Mac/iOS setup, but I think the bluetooth option is more stable.

Re: Trigger Ableton Sample and DMX (simultaneously)?

I've found you can do almost anything with Ableton. It's non-linear approach makes it more versatile than a normal DAW - but it does take a bit to understand how you can connect everything. Not sure I can answer your trigger question directly, as I've never used DMXIS in plugin mode. I ran Ableton a...

Re: Midi control two devices

The easiest (and cheapest) initial test would be using Apollo. It's free on the Mac, and a minimal fee on IOS. Not quite sure how the routing works, but if it allows you to send whatever is coming in from your Line6 through to your iPad while still leaving the Line6 available to DMXIS, then you can ...

A few more items added to my wish list... Many older midi controllers are set in their ways. All do PC's. Some do CC's. A few select ones do Note On/Off. I'd like to expand the midi capability of the DMXIS to deal with the shortcomings of old midi controllers: 1. Assign a specific PC to DMXIS bank ...

Re: MIDI transmission from DMXIS?

Is a midi echo really what you want? It sounds like you want DMXIS to send actual status messages for each of it's faders or system controls. This data would, more than likely, be quite different than a simple echo - though I'm pretty sure DMXIS doesn't send any MIDI. If the echo 'is' what you want,...

Re: D-pro latch/momentary ability?

Answered in your other thread, as well, but essentially CCs are sent once. Watch your data using a Midi Monitor. If you turn a knob that sends CC data, you'll see a data stream as long as that knob is being turned, but once it stops, no other data is sent. For a CC to turn a D-Pro button off, I beli...

Re: MIDI CC/Latching

Have you used a MIDI Monitor to validate what ProTools is sending when you open a new project. As I mentioned in the other thread, you should be able to send a single CC value - there isn't anything constantly being sent unless you change the value. The only way I believe a CC value can shut off a b...

Wondering if a good feature enhancement might be to allow users to select an option to filter out NoteOff events for Show Control button triggers. Allow the option for each button so users can choose how they want Note triggers to function.

Re: D-pro latch/momentary ability?

Is it possible ProTools is sending a MIDI reset when the project is opened? No, by your previous description, I think Pro Tools sends a "note finished" when the note ends. Imagine I have a bottom C, for bars 1 through to 4, at the end of bar 4/start of bar 5, Pro Tools is obviously sendin...

Re: D-pro latch/momentary ability?

I never open another Ableton project. I manage my whole show (up to 3 hrs) in a single Ableton file. Regardless, each of my CC button triggers simply emulate a quick (1/8 note) move from 0 to 100 then stop. The last thing D-Pro sees is the 100 value and as long as it doesn't see a 0, the button will...

Re: D-pro latch/momentary ability?

I use Ableton to send CC messages for my Show Control button triggers. I actually set them up so they start at 0, then quickly jump to some non-zero value before they stop (emulates a quick knob turn from 0). I've found that if I just set the triggers to a static CC value, I didn't always get an acc...

Re: D-PRO 1.3.1 TAP TEMPO & Keyboard shortcut

Andy - I'm concerned that your intended row/column approach is complicating your setup. Is there any reason why you aren't simply using a single cuelist for 'all' of the changes needed for each song? I'd think you'd only want to put each song (cuelist) in as a Show Control button. Once a song button...
