Re: Change from Dmxis to Showbuddy Active in Ableton?? HELP!!

You are unfortunately utilizing undocumented/unsupported functionality that was never a part of the design of the software. The VST plugin was never intended to be used as multiple instances. It was designed to be loaded ONCE on an output/return track I believe. The fact that it has worked is only c...

Re: Do fixture library downloads provide labeling solely?

Yes, for the most part fixture libraries are just labels. They also provide meta data that is used for other DMXIS functions like Macros that need the label info to know what channels do what. Other features that use the meta data for example, from the manual "Double-clicking on any named channel (e...

This controller can be used to control bank and program selection in DMXIS

Korg NanoPad2

You could also use something like TouchOSC on an iPAD to create a fully custom touch interface.

Re: No RGB channels found Error - Macros not working

Well, that's good to know. In the past either the fixtures or the shows or presets were null-ended files. Maybe that restriction has gone away. You do have to use a Text Editor, not a word processor. So on the Mac it would be something like Brackets, TextWrangler, TextMate, and on windows I think y...

Re: No RGB channels found Error - Macros not working

I'm not sure what would be easier ... trying to find a dimmerless RGB can and define 4 of them in a row or make up a proper definition for the fixture. You can't actually "edit" an existing fixture, you have to create new one from scratch (I view this as a failing of the fixture service). Probably ...

Your suffering from the I have a hammer and everything has to be a nail syndrome. You are attempting to use DMXIS as a DMX translator for Logic, rather than what it was designed for. Meaning your stuck thinking you can control your lights directly in Logic rather than using logic to trigger lighting...

If you build your presets in modular form as looks rather than songs, you can have an infinite number of songs. For example. program 1. Front Lights Red program 2. Front Lights Blue program 3. Front lights green program 4. back lights Red program 5. back lights Blue program 6. back lights green prog...

So I open the fixture creator and I want to create a color. In my fixture manual its Red Green for that setting. But the dropdown only allows for one color to be selected. So how does that work? You are aware the fixture has advanced settings to invert the display when you hang it upside down.

Does that not also change the lamp order?

Re: Chase with 4 Par Bars

its a little tricky, as you have to set the chase value of the alternate lights to 50% one at a time. So the steps would be 1. Select all the Red/Blue channels for all the lights you want to chase 2. Set the channel values to 127 (50%) 3. Set the oscillator for all the channels 4. Select each even-n...

Re: "Not quite" copying and pasting query

there is no direct way to do this. You will have to go through your presets and resave them. Its possible to write a macro that could do this for you, but there isn't any way to do this just through the fixture profile. You have extra DMX channels which means the presets are always going to be refer...

Re: Copy and Paste Pre-sets

you'll want to setup your front and back lights with masking so you can turn them on and off independently.

once that is done you can then easily create a single preset with both the front and back lights on, by turning on the the front and back lights and then saving that as a new combined preset.

Re: MIDI control of DMXIS hardware?

I get it that at some point you have to convert the ArtNET DMX commands to the DMX link layer and physical 250kHz asynchronous 8N2 serial link through an RS485 transceiver, but it is not true that this has to be done inside the iPad. The least amount of work would be a EZ Kling DMX controller throu...

Ok.. your still not understanding what I've already told you. Thank you for the quick reply cgrafx. :) You would need a MIDI interface connected to your computer , This is what I want to avoid - having both a PC and an iPad on stage. Re: MIDI control of DMXIS hardware?

You are miss-understanding what the DMXIS hardware interface is. It is nothing more than a USB to DMX interface. All of the DMX commands are generated by the DMXIS software. Well, this is what led me astray (from page 14 in the DMXIS user manual): An on-board microprocessor performs all the DMX fra...

It's been a while since I fiddled with this, but if I recall correctly the light show still runs if you close the DMXIS software and keep the DMXIS hardware powered. Is it possible to control the DMXIS hardware interface with MIDI over USB without running the DMXIS software? This would enable MIDI control from an iPad. Yes SBA will read DMXIS show files directly. Actually I believe it will do that automatically when you install SBA, but not 100% sure on that.

Show Buddy Active is a more advanced version of DMXIS and would replace DMXIS in your configuration.

You would only use two (Show Buddy and Show Buddy Active)

I really wish the name hadn't been changed from DMXIS Platinum or had been changed to something else as its very confusing.

In order to have that level of control you'll have to use something like Ableton and a click track. You can do direct lighting control assignments anywhere in the timeline. Keep in mind that DMX is a very slow protocol so try to keep things as simple as possible. As a strategy I'd try and use preset...

I have found sending CC 110 (Tap Tempo) resets the oscillator - you only need to send it once. Give that a try and see whether it works for you.
Still not the intended use of the oscillator, the light isn't just going to fade off, its going to fade back on.

Not really the intended use of the oscillator. The oscillator is intended for continuous repeating cyclical effects.

Instead setup two presets, one with the light on and one with the light off and a fade set to the time you need.
